The human side of life
The Human side of life
Life today is so comfortable and easy if we have earned the right kind of privileges. This, I say, because not everyone gets access to comfort and luxury. User friendly as the term goes for the wonderful tech savvy inventions which make our day to day life simpler. Be it machines or services provided by people and companies trying to make money in whichever way possible. The end result being making it easier all around for everyone. But...is it really that simple or have we complicated life in the name of progress. Since times immemorial food, clothing and shelter have sufficed as the basics for survival. Presently it's beyond basics. Gastronomically speaking it's more about the palate than the gut. Processed foods, frozen foods, fusion foods, fast foods, gourmet foods all clamouring for a place on your menu. The food industry today has gone haywire with restaurants and food joints mushrooming all over the globe professing to satiate the taste buds while defying all notions of hygiene and nutrition.
Clothing is invariably branding yourself with brands who have plundered your wealth, status and sanity. You are basically a live advertisement of your imprudency. Some influencer rakes up an idea, creates a clothing with his needles, threads and scissors running amock, tricks celebrities into donning it and voila you have a novel fashion trend which challenges your mental faculties, rather than the influencer's. So we have knee slashes, off shoulders, various levels of waist, tapered, flared, baggies, slim fit, tunics..and the list is endless. Multifariousness, accessibility and affordability has ripped the basic sense of clothing.
Architectural innovations and creativity has led to our shelters being ostentatious and formally stilted. Electronic gadgets are ruling the roost for home goodies thus causing a deprivation of the earthy flavour. Materialistic assets defining your status rather than comfort is the norm.
So the three basic needs of mankind viz...food, clothing and shelter were functioned to protect the human species from the sun, rain and winds. Food was supposed to provide energy to live instead we are catering more to the palate than the gut. Clothes should be in sync with the climate not with the trend. Houses should be a sheltered home for the family. Social media has obfuscated the labyrinth of life. We have come way too far to go back to the basics and as we enjoy the latest joys this life offers just reminding ourselves that we are homo sapiens blessed with a fair share of the grey matter we should utilise it to make ourselves the best versions for this planet.
